Demos!

Demos. A good one could book you a gig you didn't even know existed. A bad one?

Could make it so you never book a gig at all.

Skimping out on a solid demo is the first wrong move to a successful voiceover career. And there is no shortage of people out there willing to take a couple hundred dollars from you to make a demo you may not even be properly prepared to record.

Our advice? Go to the websites of successful working VO talent and listen to their demos. Find out who made them and then research that demo producer or company. THEN, research other producers who match that style. Compare prices, read reviews, maybe even reach out to an actor to see how their experience was and if they feel they got their money's worth.

A little research will put your voiceover career on the right path and show you the value of a good demo.

Tis the Season

The New Year is almost upon us! And you know what that means, “Dun dun DUNN!” resolutions.

But not all resolutions have to be dreaded. Instead of the cliché weight loss goal, (which lets be real, isn’t gonna make it past the month of January), why not make a pact with yourself to do something you will enjoy? Something you can not only look forward to, but could bring a new connection or improve your skills?

Maybe that’s taking a class where you can learn how to do audiobooks or dip your toes into the world of animation. Marc Cashman and Real Voice L.A. have some great voiceover classes to choose from. Maybe you’re ready to make your first demo or want to breath life into your old one. Schedule an appointment with our very own Susan Palyo for a consultation to showcase your talent so you can make another resolution to book that first gig or finally get an agent.

Listen, starting out a new year with a pressure filled, unattainable objective isn’t our idea of a good time and probably not the healthiest item on the menu so if you’re searching for a resolution to actually look forward to, consider making one that will work with you, not against you.

Happy Holidays!

If you want something done right, you have to DIY

You wake up, ready to tackle auditions, when you hear a familiar sound, “beep, beep beep”. Surprise! The construction crew has just arrived. Your neighbors are doing a month long renovation!

Your agent calls, “great news, you booked that promo gig you went out for last month! You have a home studio, right?”

That 3,000 word medical narration is due tomorrow morning and, oops, your computer just died.

Da dada da! DIY studio booth to the rescue! Did you know that Voice Trax West has professional DIY recording booths available for rent? Also, fun fact, Voice Trax is the only recording studio in LA that offers this service.

Our private, soundproof recording booths are setup complete with Source Connect so you can either book a booth to get auditions done, complete a project or call in for a session with a client.

Booking a recording booth at Voice Trax West is so convenient it may just be the easiest DIY you’ll ever do.
